Watercolor and Ink
During my architecture education in Kuala Lumpur, I had the chance to study firsthand the urbanization of Kuala Lumpur. This image represents Kampung Bharu, the only rural Malay settlement left located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. It conceptually represents the urbanization of Kampung Bharu; where the traditional wooden stilt houses are replaced by towers of concrete and steel imported from foreign countries. It raises awareness of the lost of architectural identity and culture of Malaysia. It defines the drastic differences in old and new.
