The Rhythms of Unity
Hallstaka
PR1MA Penang Prototype

Brief

The client of the project is PR1MA, a government housing agency launched in 2011. Their core values and vision are Rumahku, Kommunitiku, (My Home, My Community).

This is a group project of 2 students, and students are required to come up with new concept of a Hall + Astaka ( Grandstand) combined. Each group will be randomly given a state in Malaysia to base their design off, and be inspired by the local characteristics. The building size will be 1000msq+300msq for services.

Design statement

The task is to design a Hallstaka for PR1MA Penang. Inspired by the Clan jetties, as well as the Dragon Boats of Penang. The two highly unique to Penang, are reimagined as the Rhythms of Unity. Where the two coexist as a representation of community and sports of Penang.
Drawing from the dragon boats, where synchronization and power is key, the Hall is inspired by the dynamic rhythms of the dragon boat. The grandstand takes its elements from the Clan Jetties, as it is a historic place of viewing the sports from.
